WICHITA, Kan. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) have expanded the availability of Individual Assistance programs for Osage County's recovery from damage during the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding May 4-18.
Residents of Osage County may now apply for disaster aid to individuals and families.
Other Kansas counties eligible for Individual Assistance are: Barton, Clay, Cloud, Comanche, Dickinson, Edwards, Ellsworth, Kiowa, Leavenworth, Lyon, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Riley, Saline, Shawnee and Stafford.
Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in this county are urged to apply for assistance by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center or by callingthe telephone registration line, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) which is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. For applicants with special speech or hearing needs, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants may also register online at www.fema.gov.
"For the Kansans in Osage County who suffered losses during the May storms, this is good news." said Michael L. Karl, federal coordinating officer, the official in charge of federal recovery operations in Kansas. "This new declaration makes a wide range of aid available to those whose homes and businesses sustained significant, uninsured damage from these terrible storms, tornadoes and flooding."
Individual and household assistance may include:

Temporary Housing - Homeowners and renters may receive rental assistance to help with housing costs while displaced from their own homes or apartments or while looking for new, permanent housing.

Repair - Grants may be available to repair disaster damage not covered by insurance. These funds are intended to make their homes safe and habitable, but not necessarily to return them to their pre-disaster condition.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA) - Applicants also may be eligible to receive grants for serious disaster-related needs not met by insurance or other sources. This includes medical, dental, funeral, personal property, transportation, moving and storage and other eligible expenses. Completion of an SBA loan application may be necessary.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is the federal government's primary source of money to help homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property.
