Napa Earthquake Victims May Register For Help Through FEMA Toll-free Number

San Francisco, CA -- A toll-free telephone line is available for people affected by the recent Napa Valley earthquake. Operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the "teleregistration" service can be used in seeking various kinds of state, federal and voluntary disaster assistance.
The number to call is: 1-800-462-9029. It is available daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. California time. (People with hearing or speech difficulties may call TTY 1-800-462-7585.)
"We encourage individuals, families, and business owners who suffered losses or damages during the September 3rd earthquake to call immediately and register for aid," said Dallas Jones, state coordinating officer for the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES).
"The sooner you call, the sooner we can help," said Marc Ghilarducci, federal coordinating officer for FEMA, "I urge those affected to inquire about their eligibility for different assistance programs, since help is on a case-by-case basis."
According to Ghilarducci, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), grants for unmet needs, and other kinds of help may be available.
