HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies continue to work in partnership to help Pennsylvania residents recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Floyd in September. Since President Clinton's Sept. 18 disaster declaration, $26.6 million in aid has been provided to assist victims of the hurricane.
Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, Philadelphia and York counties were declared on Sept.18, for Hurricane Floyd damage. Berks County was added on Oct. 13.
More than 16,442 individuals, families and businesses have applied for disaster-aid programs.
As of Nov. 18:
- FEMA has approved $11,333,278 million in Disaster Housing Assistance to 9,651 applicants for temporary housing assistance and emergency repairs to make damaged homes safe, sanitary and secure.
- The Individual and Family Grant Program (IFG) has approved grants totaling $1,728,963 million for disaster victims to meet serious needs such as medical and dental expenses and to repair and replace real and personal property not covered by insurance or other disaster-assistance programs. The IFG program is administered by the state.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $12,685,400 million in low-interest loans to qualified applicants to repair homes and replace damaged personal property and to businesses to repair and replace damaged structures, inventory and equipment.
- FEMA inspectors are currently in the field inspecting damage to homes. They have completed more than 13,102 inspections to date.
- FEMA has approved $868,347 to reimburse local governments in seven counties for emergency costs such as police overtime, debris removal, protective measures and repair and replacement of public facilities damaged by the floods.
