ST CROIX, V.I. -- St. Croix residents who suffered losses or damages as a result of Hurricane Lenny and have already registered for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can visit the Federal/Territory Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Sion Farm Commercial Center, Building 1-Bays 1-6, Queen Mary Highway (Rte. 66), starting Wednesday, December 1, 1999. The DRC will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In addition to receiving an update on the status of your disaster assistance application, you can use the telephone bank to register for disaster assistance or submit required documents to continue the processing of your claim. You may also pick up literature or speak with representatives from FEMA's Disaster Housing program, the Individual and Family Grant program, the American Red Cross, the Internal Revenue Service, the Farm Service Agency and U. S. V. I. departments of Taxation and Finance, Insurance and Labor.

U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) representatives are also at the recovery center and will provide low-interest loan applications or assist in completing the loan packets. On Wednesday, the SBA will open workshops in St. Thomas, at the Tutu Park Mall in the former "Oak Tree" store, and in St. John, at the Hill Top Legislature Building in Cruz Bay. Those offices will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and provide the same assistance offered at the recovery center.

"It is not necessary to visit the recovery center. The same assistance that is available at the center is also available on our Helpline number, 1-800-525-0321," said Michael Byrne, federal coordinating officer. "However, if you intend to visit the Disaster Recovery Center or call the Helpline, please have your application number so that representatives can easily access your application," advised Col. Gene J. P. Walker (Ret.), assistant territorial coordinating officer.

All Virgin Islanders who suffered damages as a result of Hurricane Lenny are encouraged to register for disaster assistance by calling the toll free teleregistration number at 1-800-462-9029, which operates from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
