BATON ROUGE, La. -- Assisting Louisianians, who are on the road to disaster recovery, with temporary housing continues to be a top priority for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Louisiana. This week in Louisiana: There are 45 FEMA group sites currently under development in Louisiana. Once complete, these sites will provide nearly 4,000 homes to displaced residents. Thirty-one of these sites currently under development are in Orleans parish; but all future group sites in Orleans parish have been suspended per a mayoral order. At the close of business on April 8 there were 61,543 occupied travel trailers and mobile homes on private, industrial, group and commercial sites; 33 occupied apartment units; and 3,010 occupied federal housing resources provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The following charts provide detailed information on the types of temporary housing available and a listing, by parish, of housing units currently occupied:

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
