MONTGOMERY, Ala -- There are just two days left to visit State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) located in Bayou La Batre, Mobile and Birmingham. The Birmingham DRC will close its doors permanently on Friday, December 2. Hours through Friday for all three DRCs are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The two DRCs in Mobile County will re-open December 5 as U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) workshops, assisting people with SBA disaster loan questions. Their hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If anyone has questions or would like to check on the status of his or her application in person it should be done before 6 p.m. on the closing date. Visitors are reminded to have their FEMA registration number and their social security number available.

It is best to register before visiting the DRC by calling the FEMA registration line at 800-621-3362 (FEMA) or, TTY 800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. The FEMA representatives will be able to give the same information provided by disaster officials at Disaster Recovery Centers. The registration deadline is January 11, 2006. The DRC addresses are:

To date, the Bayou La Batre center has seen 11,630 applicants since it opened September 2; the Birmingham center has seen 3,950 applicants since it opened September 23; and the Mobile DRC as seen 4,632 applicants since it opened September 23. More than 39,000 persons visited the 30 DRC locations in Alabama.
