FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers And Toll-Free Registration Number To Close On Thanksgiving Day; Teleregistration Hours Will Change.

MONTGOMERY , Ala. -- The Alabama Emergency Management Agency and The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) and the teleregistration and Helpline will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. They will reopen on Friday, November, 24.

The teleregistration and Helpline closes down at midnight on Wednesday, November 23 and reopens on Friday at 6 :00 a.m. It will operate from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The toll-free number is 800-621-FEMA (3362); for the speech- or hearing-impaired the TTY number is 800-462-7585 .

The DRC hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily except Sundays. On December 2 the DRCs located in Bayou La Batre and Tillman's Corner will close permanently and will function as U.S. Small Business Administration workshops until further notice. The Birmingham DRC will also close permanently on December 2.

Individuals who suffered property damage or who had personal losses resulting from Hurricane Katrina should call before the registration deadline, which is January 11, 2006. Registration is also available online at www.fema.gov.

The following information will be needed:

Individuals who have already submitted an application or who completed the U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loan application may have follow-up questions or may need to update their information. They will be asked for their FEMA file number.
