BILOXI, Miss. -- In the first 10 days since opening, the new Mississippi Maintenance/Applicant Support call center has taken more than 7,000 calls.

The center was opened by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist state residents with mobile home and travel trailer maintenance as well as a wide range of applicant issues.

The call center number is 1-866-877-6075 and is exclusively for applicants residing in Mississippi. Staff, on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is trained to help applicants or direct them to those who can.

This is just one example of the many ways FEMA continues to work closely with applicants, local and state organizations, and voluntary agencies to assist in the Mississippi recovery process. Record amounts of funds are being approved and disbursed by the agency; billions of dollars in disaster assistance are going to businesses, individuals and communities throughout the devastated areas.

Federal assistance in Mississippi since Hurricane Katrina tops $8.8 billion and has been distributed through the following programs:

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident.
