BILOXI, Miss. -- Any interested insurance agents who want more information on the Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) portion of flood insurance policies are invited to attend a free workshop on filing claims under the program.

Flood insurance specialists from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency will conduct the session and answer questions about the program which requires filing a separate claim in addition to basic coverage.

The session is planned for 10 a.m. until noon on March 22 in the Situation Room of the Joint Field Office located at 2350 Beach Blvd., Biloxi (side entrance).

National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) ICC coverage is part of all standard flood insurance policies. The coverage enables eligible NFIP policyholders who reside in special flood hazard areas to receive up to $30,000 to help with the cost of bringing their homes or businesses into compliance with local floodplain ordinances.

Phil Stroud, a FEMA flood insurance specialist, urged local insurance agents to reserve a spot at this training opportunity. “We want to help agents help their policyholders by answering questions about possible ICC help in rebuilding substantially damaged structures,” Stroud said. Seating is limited.

Fax reservations to 228-385-7160 or 228-385-7161 to reserve a place in the workshop.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
