National Research Initiative - Microbial Biology (A): Microbial Observatories

CSREES and the National Science Foundation (NSF) announce this interagency program to support Microbial Observatories (MO) with the long-term goal to develop sites in different habitats to study and understand microbial diversity over time and across environmental gradients. New to the MO Program, and of specific interest to CSREES, is the characterization of microbial communities relevant to agroecosystems. Projects supported are expected to establish or participate in an established, Internet-accessible knowledge network to disseminate information resulting from these activities. In addition, educational and outreach activities such as formal or informal training in microbial biology, and activities that will broaden the participation of underrepresented groups in microbial research and education are expected. This program accepts a wide range of applications, please carefully review the budget guidelines to ensure application acceptance. NOTE: All applications should be submitted through the National Science Foundation.
