Products Harmonized by the European Union

Fresh/frozen red meat and poultry, meat and poultry products, game meat, products for pet food manufacture and pharmaceutical processing, ships' stores*, and certain other products intended for export to countries which are members of the European Union must follow the "European Union Requirements" found elsewhere in the FSIS Export Library. The following countries are members of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Products Not Harmonized by the European Union
  1. Processed tripe intended for export to Spain must be certified as follows:
    1. Obtain FSIS Form 9060-5, Export Certificate of Wholesomeness
    2. Obtain FSIS Form 9455-3, Certificate of Veterinary Inspection Relating to Processed Tripe Intended for Export to Spain
    3. Tripe must originate from establishments on the EU list of U.S. establishments approved for the export of natural casings.
  2. U.S. military requirements
    1. Effective January 1, 2005, transshipments of meat and poultry, meat and poultry products, and animal casings through EU member countries, and shipments that will be temporarily stored in EU member states must be accompanied by animal health certification. In addition to the certification required by the final destination country, the following transit certificates (as appropriate) should be obtained for shipments of fresh/frozen meat and fresh/frozen poultry, meat products (meat and poultry), or animal casings. If requested, transit/storage certificates should also be provided for U.S. military shipments intended for EU member countries.
    2. Products intended for U.S. military are eligible from any federally inspected establishment.
