Commitment to Diversity

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has made a full commitment to fair and equitable treatment of both customers and employees in the performance of our mission.  In today’s society, it is critical that the staff composition of any organization be reflective of society to ensure that the needs of all Americans are being met in our research programs and agency mission.  Solving the Nation’s agricultural research problems requires talented employees from all walks of life.

ARS employees, supervisors, and managers are committed to building, maintaining, and retaining a diverse, high-quality workforce where employees are recognized and their talents are valued; barriers to employment are eliminated and all employees are treated fairly in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities; and employees are encouraged to openly express their ideas and opinions to solve problems of national and international scope.

In our recruitment efforts, we reach out to diverse communities in many different ways.  Our employment opportunities are published widely through the Office of Personnel Management’s USAJOBS website located at < to link a>http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/, as well as on the ARS website located at < to link a at website Careers ARS the>http://www.ars.usda.gov/careers/.

Science Education and Career Experience

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) recruits at various educational institutions to find students with skills to meet its current and future employment needs.   Students work varying schedules – some work all year long while attending school, while others work only during the summer months.  Opportunities are available throughout ARS nationwide. Since many of our facilities are co-located with major universities, student employment provides opportunities for students to gain valuable experience related to their field of study or in other areas.  For information on student employment with ARS, use the links below:
