USDA Agency Releases Comparison of Old and New Farm Legislation
WASHINGTON, August 22, 2008 - The Economic Research Service (ERS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, today released a web-based, side-by-side comparison of key components of the 2008 Farm Bill with previous farm legislation. The bill, which became law on June 18, 2008, sets priorities for a broad range of farm- and food-related programs for the next 5 years.
When ERS produced a similar side-by-side site following passage of the 2002 Farm Bill, it drew tens of thousands of visitors in the first week alone.
“What our website offers,” said ERS Administrator Kitty Smith, “is a comparison of key provisions of the new bill with what the law specified before it was passed. We believe this web product will be a valuable, time-saving reference tool immediately and in the years ahead.”
The 2008 side-by-side site includes new features such as an A-to-Z list of major provisions, a user's guide, and a search function.
The farm bill side-by-side product is at www.ers.usda.gov/farmbill/2008.
