Ohio

A pioneering Memorandum of Understanding, the first of it’s kind in the country, was signed by three agencies responsible for forest conservation in Ohio.  NRCS, the USDA Forest Service, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry will explore ways to provide additional financial and technical assistance to landowners bordering the Wayne National Forest for management of forest resources.

NRCS and Audubon Society Celebrate Permanent WRP Easement
See highlights of NRCS Chief Arlen Lancaster and National Audubon Society Chief Operating Officer Robert Perciasepe's recent visit to South Carolina for a Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) ceremony in the Four Holes Swamp in Dorchester County.  The Four Holes Swamp is the world’s largest virgin cypress-tupelo swamp forest.

Efforts by NRCS public affairs specialist Sylvia Rainford and the NRCS Science and Technology Deputy Area resulted in a piece featuring First Lady Laura Bush that aired on Fox News recently.  Mrs. Bush explains efforts to restore native grasses on the Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Major Land Resource Area Explorer
The NRCS National Soil Survey and National Geospatial Development Centers recently released Major Land Resource Area (MLRA) Explorer, a Web application that displays the USDA Agriculture Handbook 296 (Land Resource Regions and Major Land Resource Areas of the United States, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Basin-2006) in an online interactive format.

NRCS This Week
features a weekly historical photo and caption.  NHQ, districts, States, RC&D councils, and all other NRCS entities are invited to submit a historical photo of activities or individuals who have worked or are working for the agency along with a caption.
