Plant materials are an important part of the conservation provisions recommended by the administration for the 2007 Farm Bill, according to Florida NRCS State Conservationist and Chairman of the National Plant Materials Advisory Committee Niles Glasgow.

Hoosier conservation leaders recently gathered to celebrate the local, State, and Federal partnership in Indiana that brings important stewardship practices to Hoosier landowners.  With Senator Richard Lugar’s farm in Marion County, Indiana, as a backdrop, State Agriculture Director Andy Miller presented a proclamation from Governor Mitch Daniels to the Indiana Conservation Partnership.  Miller also thanked the public/private partnership for the technical, financial, and educational assistance they provide to landowners.

Deputy Chief for Strategic Planning and Accountability Katherine C. Gugulis has been reassigned as Deputy Chief for Management.

Environmental engineer Darren Hickman has been selected for the National Environmental Engineer position with the Conservation Engineering Division at NHQ in Washington, DC.  Darren has been serving with the Central National Technology Support Center located in Fort Worth, Texas.  He will report to NHQ on August 20, 2007.

Dan Runnels has been reassigned as Associate Deputy Chief for Management pending Departmental approval, effective July 8, 2007.  Dan Runnels is currently Director of the Operations Management & Oversight Division.

Terrell Ann Erickson has been selected as National Biologist and joins the NHQ Ecological Sciences Division on August 6, 2007.

Over 100 crop species in North America require insect pollinators in order to be productive. Today, many farms heavily rely upon imported honeybees to pollinate their crops.  Due to pathogens and the present malady given the name “Colony Collapse Disorder,” honeybee populations have been reduced over the last few years.
