NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS

TO MEET APRIL 3-5

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a technical meeting April 3-5 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Conference Room 2B3 in the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the NRC's public hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities. While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters set forth in a Notice of Meeting published in the Federal Register March 20.

The meeting may include closed sessions, if required, to discuss proprietary information.

Here is the complete meeting agenda:

THURSDAY, APRIL 3

8:30 to 8:45 a.m. -- Opening remarks by the ACRS chairman.

8:45 - 9:45 a.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff regarding the proposed regulatory approach for dealing with steam generator integrity issues. Industry representatives will participate as appropriate.

10:00 - 11:30 a.m. -- Discussions with the NRC staff on the consequences of reactor water cleanup system line breaks outside containment.

11:30 - 11:45 a.m. -- Report from the Chairman of the Thermohydraulic Phenomena Subcommittee.

11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. -- Discussions of responses from the NRC Executive Director for Operations to recent ACRS reports.

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. -- Discussions with the NRC staff regarding the proposed regulatory guidance related to 10 CFR 50.59 requirements.

2:45 - 6:30 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

FRIDAY, APRIL 4

8:35 - 10:00 a.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on issues associated with degradation of Boraflex used in spent fuel pool storage racks.

10:15 -11:45 a.m. -- Discussion with NRC staff on use of potassium iodide following a severe accident.

1:15 - 1:45 p.m. -- Future ACRS activities.

1:45 - 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

SATURDAY, APRIL 5

8:30 - 9:00 a.m. -- Report of the Planning and Procedures Subcommittee.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

12:00 - 1:00 p.m. -- Strategic planning.

1:00 - 1:30 p.m. -- Miscellaneous matters.
