SALEM, Ore. -- More than $20 million in disaster assistance is now approved to help Oregonians recover from the December 2007 storms, according to officials with Oregon Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

"Our goal is to help Oregonians recover as quickly as possible," said Federal Coordinating Officer Glen R. Sachtleben.

Individuals affected by the storms and flooding may receive funds to cover disaster-related costs such as home repairs and temporary housing. State and local governments, federally recognized tribes, and nonprofit agencies providing essential services can be reimbursed for disaster-related costs for emergency response, debris removal and repair to roads, utilities, public buildings, parks and facilities.

The Disaster Recovery Center at the Vernonia City Hall, 1001 Bridge Street, remains open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice.  Individuals outside the Vernonia area can call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) (TTY: 1-800-462-7585) to ask questions about their applications or update their information.

"Even though the application deadline has passed, we will provide ongoing services to those who are registered and in need of our help," said State Coordinating Officer Abby Kershaw.
