Disaster Assistance Deadline This Week

Lacey, Wash. -- The deadline to register for state and federal disaster assistance is just a few days away. Thursday, Feb. 7, is the final day for individuals who were impacted by the severe storms, mudslides, landslides and flooding of Dec. 1-17, 2007 to call or go online to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
"Don't miss this deadline because you think your damage is too minor to worry about, or because you have insurance," said State Coordinating Officer Kurt Hardin. "What seems to be minor flood damage now could turn into mold or structural problems later, and your insurance may not cover all of your repairs."
Washington residents in Clallam, Grays Harbor, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Snohomish, Thurston and Wahkiakum counties who suffered damage during the flooding should call the FEMA registration line at 1-800-621- FEMA (3362) TTY 1-800-462-7585 and register for assistance by Feb. 7. Registration hours are from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Applicants also may register any time before 6 p.m. (local time) on Feb. 7 online at www.fema.gov.
Homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations who suffered property damages from the storm and received loan applications from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also need to complete and return those applications on that date.
Anyone with questions about an SBA loan application can contact the SBA at 1-800-659-2955 (TTY) 1-800-877-8339 or visit the SBA website at www.sba.gov/services/ disasterassistance. Applicants can submit completed applications or get help filling out the forms at any Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) or SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC).
