Disaster Recovery Centers Open Monday

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. -- Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are scheduled to visit Tyler and Taylor counties for the week beginning Monday, June 30, emergency management officials announced. The centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, July 5, except for July 4 when hours will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Disaster experts will be present to assist victims of the June 3 - 7 severe storms, tornadoes, flooding, mudslides and landslides that impacted north central West Virginia. Representatives of the U.S. Small Business Administration will also be at the centers to offer assistance for homeowners, renters and business owners in preparing applications for low-interest loans.

People in Barbour, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Marion, Taylor and Tyler counties who suffered uninsured or underinsured losses related to the storms, can receive person-to-person assistance from federal, state and some private specialists at any federal-state recovery center.

The first two mobile centers opened Tuesday in Barbour and Jackson counties.  Beginning Monday they will be open in Flemington and Middlebourne. Two more recovery centers are located on fixed sites at the locations shown below in Shinnston and Glenville.

Disaster officials ask that before visiting the centers, people who had uninsured or underinsured, storm-related losses first apply for assistance by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362)  (or for the hearing- and speech-impaired, TTY (800) 462-7585). The toll-free telephone numbers will operate 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
