HAZUS-MH MR3 FAQs: Study Regions and Other HAZUS Usage

Are there any limitations on importing HAZUS-MH, HAZUS-MH MR1 or HAZUS-MH MR2 study regions into HAZUS-MH MR3?

Flood Model study regions created in HAZUS-MH and HAZUS-MH MR1 cannot be imported into HAZUS-MH MR3 because the NED (or other DEM previously used in HAZUS-MH) data is processed differently in each version.  HAZUS-MH MR2 study regions can be imported into HAZUS-MH MR3, however, ESRI modified the projection methodology for ArcGIS 9.2; therefore, the MR3 DEM is slightly different from that in MR2, resulting in slightly different results.  Otherwise, there are no major differences preventing the importation of study regions created in HAZUS-MH MR2 into HAZUS-MH MR3.

The Hurricane Model is backward compatible one version.  Thus, to import a study region created in HAZUS-MH to MR3, the user will have to:
  1. Export from MH
  2. Import to MR1
  3. Export from MR1
  4. Import to MR2
  5. Export from MR2
  6. Import to MR3

There are no limitations on importing earthquake study regions created in HAZUS-MH, HAZUS-MH MR1, or HAZUS-MH MR2 into the HAZUS-MH MR3 Earthquake Model.
