NRC PLANS TO MEET WITH STATE LIAISON OFFICERS
The NRC will meet with State Liaison Officers on October 8 and 9 in Rockville,
Maryland, to discuss current issues of mutual interest.
The meeting, open for public observation, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on
October 8 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on October 9 in the NRC auditorium at 11545
Rockville Pike.
Issues to be discussed during the meeting include: NRC's strategic assessment, current
nuclear power plant issues (stemming from Millstone, Maine Yankee), electric utility restructuring
and deregulation, the National Academy of Science's report on radiation in medicine, external
regulation of DOE, spent fuel and high-level waste, enforcement policy and whistleblowers, and
emergency response planning.
State Liaison Officers are appointed by the Governors of the 50 states to provide a
communication link between individual states and the NRC.
