NRC NAMES NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR
AT SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have announced the assignment
of Mel Shannon as the agency's Senior Resident Inspector at the Sequoyah nuclear power
plant, located near Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. He succeeds Bill Holland, the Senior Resident
Inspector at the Sequoyah plant since 1991.
Shannon served in the U.S. Navy and held several positions with nuclear utilities
before joining the NRC in 1986. From 1986 to 1988, Shannon was a reactor inspector in the
Region II office in Atlanta and was a resident inspector at the Shearon Harris nuclear plant in
North Carolina from 1988 to 1993. Most recently, Shannon was an operations engineer in the
NRC's Washington headquarters. He received a Bachelor's degree from New Hampshire
College.
Shannon officially became the Senior Resident Inspector at the Sequoyah plant on
August 18, joining NRC Resident Inspectors Doug Starkey and Deborah Seymour. The NRC
inspectors at the Sequoyah plant can be reached at 423-842-8001.
