No. 98-209
November 18, 1998
TO MEDICAL POLICY STATEMENT, REGULATIONS, GUIDANCE
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has reopened the public comment period until December 16 on proposed revisions to its policy statement and regulations on medical uses of radioactive material.
The Commission announced in August the details of the proposed revisions and invited public comments on the proposals by November 12 for the regulations and November 13 for the policy statement. The agency decided to reopen the invitation in response to a number of concerns that the original 90-day period was too short for members of the public to thoroughly review, understand and comment on the proposed changes.
Interested persons are invited to submit comments by December 16 to the Secretary, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001, Attention: Rulemakings and Adjudications Staff. Comments may also be submitted electronically via the NRC's interactive rulemaking website at http://www.nrc.gov/NRC/rule.html.
The NRC also announced in August the availability of a draft guidance document, "Consolidated Guidance about Materials Licenses: Program-Specific Guidance about the Medical Use of Byproduct Material," NUREG-1556, Volume 9, and requested comments by November 12. The comment period on this draft guidance has also been reopened until December 16.
Comments on the guidance document should be submitted to the Chief, Rules and Directives Branch, Division of Administrative Services, Office of Administration, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001. Comments may also be submitted through the Internet by addressing electronic mail to DLM1@NRC.GOV.
