NOTE TO EDITORS:

Five subcommittees of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards have scheduled meetings in Rockville, Maryland. All meetings will be held in the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike in Room T-2B3. The meetings scheduled are as follows:

The Subcommittee on Plant License Renewal will meet on November 18 at 8:30 a.m. The subcommittee will discuss the status of the staff's review of the license renewal applications for the Calvert Cliffs and Oconee nuclear power plants, and other general issues regarding license renewal activities.

The Subcommittees on Reliability and Probabilistic Risk Assessment, Plant Operations, and Regulatory Policies and Practices will meet jointly on November 19-20.

The agenda for this meeting is as follows:

Thursday, November 19

1:00 p.m. - Discussion of proposed options to make 10 CFR parts 50 and 50.59 (changes, tests and experiments) risk-informed.

Friday, November 20

8:30 a.m. - Review proposed changes to NRC's assessment programs, including the integrated review of assessment processes, the senior management meeting, risk-informed baseline inspection case studies, and proposed changes to the inspection program; and programs for risk-based analysis of reactor operating experience including risk-informed performance indicators.

The Subcommittee on Thermal-Hydraulic Phenomena will meet on November 19 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The subcommittee will review the Westinghouse methodology for best-estimate small-break loss of coolant accident analysis, using the WCOBRA/TRAC code.

Other aspects of the meeting, including opportunities for public comment, will be described in a forthcoming edition of the Federal Register.
