NRC STAFF NAMES NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT BEAVER VALLEY

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Geoffrey A. Wertz as the new resident inspector at the Beaver Valley nuclear power plant in Shippingport, Pa. He joins Senior Resident Inspector David Kern and Resident Inspector Glenn Dentel.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public.

Mr. Wertz joined the NRC in January as a reactor engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects. Prior to joining the agency, he worked for 14 years at Carolina Power & Light Company's Brunswick plant. During that time, he held various management positions in the engineering and maintenance organizations.

Mr. Wertz earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a master's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree in physics from the College of William and Mary. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of North Carolina.

Mr. Wertz, his wife and three children live in Beaver, Pa.

The resident inspectors at Beaver Valley can be reached at (724) 643-2000.
