NOTE TO EDITORS:

Two subcommittees of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) have scheduled meetings in June in Rockville, Maryland.

The meetings, which will be open to public observation, will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Room T-2B3, of the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

On June 17-18, the Subcommittee on Advanced Reactor Designs will continue its review of the Westinghouse AP600 design. Specifically, the subcommittee will review the inspection, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria, the AP600 Level 1 probabilistic risk assessment, and the NRC staff's evaluation of chapters 1,4,5,7,8,11,13 and 18 of the AP600 Standard Safety Analysis Report.

On June 19, the Subcommittee on Plant Operations will discuss the proposed changes to 10 CFR 50.59 (Changes, Tests and Experiments), the status of resolution of issues identified in the March 24 Staff Requirements Memo related to SECY-97-205, "Integration and Evaluation of Results From Recent Lessons-Learned Reviews," and related matters.

Other aspects of the meetings, including an opportunity for public comment, will be described in a Notice of Meeting published in a forthcoming edition of the Federal Register.
