No: II-98-14 February 24, 1998
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued an Order to a former employee at Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Farley nuclear power plant which prohibits involvement in NRC-licensed activities for a three-year period and requires notification to the NRC of the person's first involvement in NRC-licensed activities for an additional year after the prohibition expires. The order is effective immediately.
NRC officials sent notification to Julian H. McGriff on February 23, informing him of the action. The agency issued the order because McGriff deliberately falsified inventories of emergency equipment from April 1996 to January 1997. An audit by the plant staff and a subsequent NRC investigation found that on a number of occasions, McGriff's entries on the inventory checklist documentation did not match plant access data.
McGriff was terminated by Southern Nuclear Operating Company in March 1997 and his three-year prohibition began at that time.
