DES MOINES, Iowa -- Hazard mitigation teams with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are holding events throughout the state for the next several weeks, to assist Iowa citizens who sustained damage during the recent floods.  They will be on-site at various home improvement centers to answer questions citizens may have about protecting their homes from future disaster damage, as well as other home-improvement questions.

The experts will be demonstrating flood- and wind-resistant building techniques and will offer advice on topics such as home elevations, reducing future flood damage, safe rooms, structural concerns and other disaster-related issues. FEMA Community Relations personnel will also be on-hand to assist the mitigation teams.

During the week of July 23-28, teams can be found at the following locations:

Those interested in having their home-improvement and mitigation questions answered can visit this location on these days, any time between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., except Sunday.  Sunday hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Individuals can still register for FEMA assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585. They may also register on-line at www.fema.gov.
