| November 4, 2006 - Congressman Doyle announced that the Carrie Furnaces site in Rankin had recently been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service. Carrie Furnaces 6 and 7 are rare examples of important early 20th Century industrial technology. Congressman Doyle has introduced legislation to establish a National Historic Site that would include Carrie Furnaces 6 and 7, the Hot Metal Bridge, the Battle of Homestead site, and other historic parts of the Borough of Homestead. |

| November 3, 2006 - Congressman Doyle presents a Purple Heart medal to retired US Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Walter Popatak for injuries sustained in the Solomon Islands during World War II. Congressman Doyle and his staff worked with the Department of the Navy to correct the record and were able to ensure that Staff Sergeant Popatak received the award he was entitled to. In presenting this award to Staff Sergeant Popatak, Congressman Doyle said that "It's never too late to right a wrong or correct an injustice. It's certainly never too late to recognize a veteran's injuries in defense of his country." |

| October 26, 2006 – Congressman Doyle joined Damian Soffer, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, County Executive Dan Onorato, State Senator Jay Costa, Chris Fulton of the Soffer Organization, Pittsburgh City Councilman Jeff Koch, State Representative Jake Wheatley, and URA Executive Director Jerome Dettore in breaking ground for the South Shore Riverfront Park. Congressman Doyle secured more than $1.2 million for the new park and reconstruction of the Hot Metal Bridge, which will connect existing and planned sections of a regional trail system that will eventually link downtown Pittsburgh with Washington, D.C. |

| October 29, 2006 - Congressman Doyle joined Stan Caldwell from Senator Arlen Specter's office, State Representative Dan Frankel, and Squirrel Hill Health Center CEO Susan Friedberg Kalson in cutting the ribbon to officially open the Squirrel Hill Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Care Center with a mission of providing comprehensive health care to underserved populations. The center will target patients from Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, South Oakland, Regent Square, Glenwood, and Swissvale and will serve everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Congressman Doyle secured $100,000 in federal funding for this facility in 2004. |

Other speakers included U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, David Rosenberg of the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition, the Right Reverend Henry Scriven, Assistant Bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, Tim Stevens of the Black Political Empowerment Project, Amy Langham of Global Solutions Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh City Councilmember Doug Shields. |

| July 21, 2006 – Congressman Doyle meets with Judith Miller and Mary Broughton in the cafeteria of the federal building in downtown Pittsburgh to celebrate their return to work in the federal building cafeteria. These two women, after having worked for decades in the federal building cafeteria, were deemed “unsuitable for employment in a federal building” by the Department of Homeland Security. Congressman Doyle and his staff worked with the women to file an appeal with the Department of Homeland Security and have their “unsuitable” determination promptly overturned. |

| July 10, 2006 - Congressman Doyle and Congressman Phil English call for passage of H.R. 5229, the Pet Safety and Protection Act, in a press conference at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pet Safety and Protection Act would prevent family pets from being sold for laboratory experiments and other research. |

First place went to George Blake of Woodland Hills High School for his untitled self-portrait in acrylic paint. The second place prize went to Carl Bennett from Woodland Hills High School for his Linoleum print, "African Suspicion." The third place prize went to Lynsey Loposky from West Mifflin High School for her acrylic painting entitled "Memory of a Soldier." The fourth place prize went to Nicole Oldham from Penn Hills High School for her watercolor entitled "Reality Born from the Pen." The fifth place prize went to Julianne Sota from the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts for her acrylic painting entitled "House of Color." |

At this event, Congressman Doyle accepted over 13,000 postcards signed by local residents concerned about the plight of the people of Darfur and pledged to do all he could to end the Sudanese government's genocidal policies. |

| March 6 , 2006 -- Congressman Doyle presents $800,000 check to Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and local officials from Millvale, Etna, O’Hara, Sharpsburg, Reserve, Shaler, and the City of Pittsburgh. Congressman Doyle secured this funding to help ALCOSAN and these municipalities redirect stormwater run-off from Route 28 out of local sewer lines and into the Allegheny River in order to eliminate sewer overflows after big storms. This project will improve local water quality, increase local sewer capacity, and improve the quality of life in these communities. |
