SAN JUAN, PR -- Puerto Rico and U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster recovery officials announced today that the toll-free registration and helpline numbers are now open 24 hours per day. 

Residents affected by severe storms and flooding beginning Sept. 21 are encouraged to apply for disaster assistance.  Individuals can begin the disaster application process by calling the toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), choose option 2 for Spanish, or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing- or speech-impaired. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.

Applicants can also call the helpline to check the status of their application or update their registration information, including change of address or phone number. It is important for applicants to update their information so that they can receive the help they need. This essential information helps FEMA to stay in touch with applicants, disburse funds, and assist affected residents with various forms of assistance.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
