NRC TO MEET WITH SONGS OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS RESULTS OF SPECIAL INSPECTION

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with officials of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station on March 21 to discuss the results of a special NRC inspection that reviewed circumstances surrounding the February 3 electrical fire that caused SONGS Unit 3 to be shutdown.

The meeting will be held in the Learning Center, Building E-50, at the SONGS site beginning at 10 a.m. The public is invited to observe the meeting. NRC officials will be available to answer questions afterward.

The four-person special inspection team was sent to SONGS on February 6 following the electrical fire and subsequent plant shutdown. The NRC routinely sends its inspectors to a nuclear plant that experiences an unusual equipment failure so it may fully understand the event. The team's written report will be available within 30 days.
