Two Disaster Recovery Centers Scheduled To Open In Illinois 

Locations to assist those affected by recent storms and flooding

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The state of Illinois and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are opening Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) to serve residents and businesses in Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle and Will counties affected by the remnants of Hurricane Ike. The severe storms and flooding from the hurricane began to hit these counties on September 13, 2008.

The centers open at noon Tuesday, Oct. 7. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 8 the hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Before visiting a DRC, those who sustained losses in the designated counties should apply for assistance online at www.fema.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST seven days a week.

The DRCs are for those who have problems registering or have further questions and concerns. Services people can expect to receive at a DRC include:

When disaster-affected residents visit a DRC they should bring identification, social security numbers, insurance information, proof of address and contact phone numbers in order to help speed up the assistance process.
