Wildfires Burn in Nevada and California

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Interagency Fire Center reports serious wildfire activity in Nevada and California.
Nevada:
A 4,500-acre fire is reported 10 miles north of Reno, Nev., and is threatening several houses in two sub-divisions. Local officials report mandatory evacuations have been ordered. The blaze, dubbed the Red Rock fire, is difficult to fight due to the terrain.
FEMA approved a Fire Suppression Assistance Grant yesterday to help Nevada fight this fire.
California:
There are more than 130 fires burning in Northern California, most of which were caused by lightning strikes. More than 40,000 acres have been consumed by the flames. Several of the fires are threatening small towns, and some evacuations have occurred.
One fatality is blamed on the wildfires. Three Incident Management Teams have been activated as a result of these fires to help coordinate fire fighting operations.
