Funding Approaching $16 Million for Oregon Disaster Losses

SALEM, Ore. -- Disaster assistance monies continue to increase in Oregon for those affected by the December 2007 storms and now total $15,840,000 (fifteen million, eight hundred forty thousand dollars), according to officials with Oregon Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
"We continue to move forward, delivering qualified assistance to those in need," said Deputy Federal Coordinating Officer Dolph Diemont. "In addition to help for individuals and small business owners, the funds to help 158 eligible city, county and state governments, as well as Indian Tribes, Special District and qualified non-profit organizations are now being obligated."
Recovery Summary as of close of business February 14, 2008:
- $5,822,680 in Individual Assistance is approved;
- $9, 057,500 in low-interest disaster loans for individuals and small business owners is approved;
- 177 loans to homeowners and renters
- 28 loans to small business owners
- $962,645 is now obligated for costs approved for 57 Public Assistance projects;
- 1,981 home inspections have been completed;
- 3,526 individuals are registered for Individual Assistance;
- 3,618 individuals have visited the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC);
- 1,900 registrations in Clatsop County
- 825 registrations in Columbia County;
- 113 registrations in Polk County;
- 547 registrations in Tillamook County;
- 49 registrations in Washington County;
- 92 registrations in Yamhill County.
"The obligation of Public Assistance funding for our community, county and state agencies will greatly help in the recovery from the December storms," said State Coordinating Officer Abby Kershaw. "Getting our infrastructure damages repaired goes a long way towards a return to normal, everyday operations throughout the affected areas. There may be as many as 700 projects submitted for funding"
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
