Hancock and Wilkinson Residents Have Only Two Days Left to Visit a DRC; Adams, Washington Residents Have One Week

LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, is the last day Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in Hancock and Wilkinson counties will be open. The DRCs will close permanently at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Representatives from FEMA, MEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and voluntary agencies are available at the DRCs to assist Hurricane Gustav storm victims with their applications for disaster assistance and to answer questions applicants may have about what assistance programs are available.

Locations of the DRCs in those counties are:

Storm victims are reminded that even though the DRCs in their counties are closing, assistance is still available through FEMA's toll-free registration/Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing- or speech-impaired individuals should call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Also, residents are advised they may visit an out-of-county DRC if they so desire.

Residents of Adams and Washington counties who suffered damage from Hurricane Gustav have until Friday, Oct. 31, to visit a DRC located in their counties.

Individuals who have not registered for disaster assistance yet may do so by calling FEMA's registration/Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY-1-800-462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired. FEMA operators are available everyday, 24 hours, until further notice. Registration also can be completed online at www.fema.gov.

Information on SBA loan applications is also available by calling the toll-free SBA Customer Service Center, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at     1-800-659-2955, or visit the SBA web site at www.sba.gov, or by emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.  Disaster victims can visit SBA's secure Web site at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/ to apply online for disaster loans.
