Disaster Assistance Provided By FEMA, State, SBA To Individuals And Businesses Tops $2.8 Million

Langley, KY -- More than $2,869,886 has been provided thus far to residents by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Commonwealth for flooding damage that occurred in July and August, Michael Bolch, federal coordinating officer, reported today.
For individuals and families, Bolch said, financial assistance, totaling $1,611,559 has been approved for 758 families to pay for temporary housing and repairs to homes that were damaged or destroyed by flooding. Types of aid include grants for alternate rental housing and emergency repairs needed to make a residence habitable.
Added to housing assistance is $755,527 for 241 registrations approved under the Individual and Family Grant (IFG) program. IFG is administered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
A total of $502,800 in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans has been approved for 23 home and 2 businesses. A temporary SBA loan office in Floyd County (Left Beaver Creek Fire Station #2 in McDowell) is open until further notice. All flood victims in the five declared counties may receive help in understanding and completing loan applications at this location. Loans might be used for restoring or replacing underinsured or uninsured disaster-damaged real and personal property.
So far 1,214 registrations have been received but not all have been inspected and approved for assistance. The registration count by county is: Floyd, 672; Knott, 116; Letcher, 62; Perry, 59; and Pike, 270. These counties were designated for Individual Assistance on Aug. 23. Homeowners, renters and businesses in those counties may be eligible for assistance, which includes temporary housing, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loans for individuals and businesses to repair or replace damaged property, and grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not met by other programs.
"The only way to register for assistance is through the toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029 (or 1-800-462-7585 for speech and hearing impaired)," Bolch explained. Calls may be made daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
