FEMA And State To Open Disaster Recovery Center In Lake George

Albany, NY -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) are opening a Disaster Recovery Center on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 to serve those affected by the April 20 AuSable Forks earthquake. The Center's location and hours of operation are as follows:

Center Hours of Operation:
Tuesday, June 11 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, June 12 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.*
*Note the extended evening hours.

The center is open to people from the six declared counties-Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Washington and Warren.

Individuals who suffered damage to their home or business property in the declared counties are urged to apply first for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the speech- or hearing-impaired.

"People can always call FEMA's toll-free HELPLINE at 1-800-525-0321 with questions after they have registered," said Federal Coordinating Officer Marianne C. Jackson. "The recovery centers offer people the opportunity to meet face-to-face with disaster experts if they choose."

"We are here to lend a helping hand," said State Coordinating Officer Edward F. Jacoby, Jr. "I urge anyone needing additional disaster-related information to visit the Disaster Recovery Center or call the HELPLINE with questions."

Each center will be staffed with disaster experts including representatives from FEMA, various state agencies and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Information will be available on housing, agricultural and disaster loans available for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and non-profit organizations affected by the disaster.
