Introductory Russian III

Overview:
Improve your Russian reading, writing and speaking skills. This high introductory-level Russian class introduces participants to new grammatical structures, including an overview of aspects of the accusative, dative, genitive and instrumental cases. New vocabulary is also presented. ACE College Credit Recommendation Service reviewed.
Prerequisites:
Introductory Russian II (RUSS1152E), or equivalent.

To provide the student with continued instruction in Russian grammar as well as further improvement in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.

Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the ability to converse more fluently in everyday Russian conversations and to understand and conjugate various cases.

Instruction
Major topics covered in the course include the dative case of pronouns; genitive plural; specifying quantity; любить; год, года, лет; comparing ages; зовут; accusative case of pronouns and masculine animate singular; past tense of есть and нет; ходил vs. пошёл; dative case of modifiers and nouns; indirect objects; the preposition - но; expressing necessity and possibility using нушно, надо, можно; conjugation of есть and пить; instrumental case with 'с'; future tense; expressing resemblance with похож на кого; expressing location; time expressions; past tense; and ездил vs. поехал.

Vocabulary topics will include families; asking for advice on purchases/making purchases; birthday greetings; reading menus; eating in a restaurant; cooking; describing locations and Russian cultural figures.

Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, presentations, tests, and final examination.
