Build on the reading and language skills acquired in Intermediate Japanese I while focusing more closely on kanji.
Prerequisites:
Intermediate Japanese I (JAPN2210E), or equivalent.

Syllabus:
Syllabus, Graduate School, USDA

Objective: To introduce the student to intermediate-level Japanese grammar and vocabulary while increasing their abilities to read and converse more fluently in Japanese.

Learning Outcome: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to interact in increasingly complex conversations; while reading and writing at least 200 Kanji.

Instruction:
Major topics covered in the course include:

  • a review of useful expressions -ています,-たいです-がいいです;
  • Formation of comparative -のほうが-より and superlative一番(いちばん);
  • て・で as a connective and -に行く; -
  • ことができます and -まえに; -たことがあります(have done) and -たり-たり; 擬声語、擬態語(ぎせいご、ぎたいご)onomatopoeiamimesis; -く・になります、-てから、-ていません、-.

    Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, presentations, tests and final examination.
