Overview:
Authentic texts and recordings are key features of this course designed for the further development of skills in reading, writing and speaking. Through interactive role plays, presentations and class discussions, students acquire and apply their language skills. Grammar includes: reflexive verbs; the intensifiers "selbst" and "selber"; modals; passive constructions; the subjunctive; indirect discourse; and active verbs in passive voice.
Prerequisites:
Intermediate German II (GERM2211E) or equivalent.

To introduce all high-level intermediate German grammatical and vocabulary topics to students; while concurrently improving their oral and written abilities.

Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to interact in high-level intermediate German conversations and to read and writing about German culture using a variety of complex grammatical and vocabulary patterns.

Instruction
Major topics covered in the course will include reflexive pronouns and verbs; intensifiers selbst and selber; relative clauses; relative pronouns; extended modifiers; objective and subjective use of modals; passive voice; participle in passive vs. as predicate adjective; summary of uses of werden; alternatives to passive voice; wishes, commands and requests and indirect discourse.

Vocabulary topics will include environment; stereotypes; culture and society.

Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, case studies, role playing, problem solving, oral participation/proficiency, quizzes, and mid-term and final examinations.
