This is a quiet evening aboard this steamer--which proudly displays two chevrons on its funnel for its job of transporting troops to Europe in the last war--Most of the men are still on their three day liberty; while we worked as usual on the Pittsburgh. And as usual I was a much harassed yeoman during the working hours: I no sooner sit down at a typewritter to work at an important report than someone wants to locate something in the files & another officer asks me to do something for him & then the commander sends me to the flag cabin, and on & on. For instance, had to get telephonic communication with two of our ships in Seattle & then spent about an hour locating the ships to find our that one was docked almost in our front yard.

I am also the only yeoman authorized to handle confidential & secret matter. Actually, there isn't much of that matter--I didn't want the responsibility
