Today's Weather:
Temperature: 80° F
Winds:  Northwest 12 mph
Relative Humidity: 13-19%

Fire Restrictions: Sequoia National Forest and Bureau of Land Management-Bakersfield Field Office implemented fire restrictions due to the HIGH FIRE DANGER! Campfires, portable gas stoves or barbecues are only allowed in campgrounds, developed recreation areas or fire exempt areas.

Clover Fire Activity
Location: Sequoia and Inyo National Forests in the South Sierra Wilderness, north of Kennedy Meadows and south of Beck Meadow, California.

15,262 acres – 70% contained; Expect full containment on Tuesday, July 15th.

New Status:   During the evening there was little active spread observed on the Clover fire and there should be no active fire spread today.  Firefighters will continue securing containment lines and mopping up interior hot spots.  Water-dropping helicopters will assist in this effort.

The Incident Commander of the South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team, Allen Johnson, and the entire Command & General Staff wish the community well!  We extend our great thanks for all the community support during our assignment here; especially in the communities of Kennedy Meadows and Long Canyon.  Together we were able to successfully manage the Clover fire without any serious injuries to firefighters and no homes were burned.

The South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team, (Johnson) is transitioning today with the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team (Diane Huttons) who will assume command of the Clover Fire tomorrow at 6 a. m. Friday, July 4, 2008.

Communities are being reminded that fire danger is extremely high.  Property owners need to be prepared.  Make sure your home has defensible space against ignition sources such as hot flying embers that can land in your yard or on your roof!

Committed Resources:

  •  3 helicopters
  •  2 handcrews
Total of 180 personnel assigned

KENNEDY MEADOW CAMPGROUND and the fire safe areas are now open to the public.  The temporary fire area closure remains in effect. Do not enter the hazardous Clover Fire perimeter!
