Today's Weather:
Temperature: 72-75° F
Winds:  W 20 mph

Relative Humidity: 10-13 %.

SMOKE:  Smoke is a concern for the Kennedy Meadows, Kern River Valley, Olancha and Ridgecrest during the late evening and early morning hours due to a local valley inversion.

Clover Fire Activity
Location:  Sequoia National Forest in the South Sierra Wilderness, north of Kennedy Meadows and south of Beck Meadow, California.

Acreage: 13,250 acres.

Status:  Two Type 2 Incident Management Teams (Johnson) and (Harvey) are managing the Clover Incident.  The fire continues to burn on both the Sequoia and Inyo National Forests.  Johnson's team is managing the portions of the fire west of the Sierra Crest and Harvey’s team is managing the portions east of the Sierra Crest.  Both teams are working cooperatively and sharing resources.

The south end of the fire continues to be the main emphasis near Long Canyon.  Hand-crews are building fireline on the south and southeastern side of the fire.  Steep rugged terrain, dry fuels and extreme fire behavior are hampering firefighter movement.

Aggressive management actions continue along the south and southeastern flanks.  The potential for extreme fire behavior continues this afternoon.  A structure protection group is in place at Kennedy Meadows.

Fuels/Material Involved: Fire is burning in Jeffrey pine, Mmountain Mmahogany, Sage brush, Manzanita and Rrabbitbrush, Pinion and Juniper.

Growth Potential: High

Committed Resources:

  • 5 helicopters
  • 17 handcrews
  • 24 engines
  • 4 Fire use modules (specialized fire crews)
  • 1 Fire behavior assessment team
  • Total of 640 personnel assigned

Pacific Crest Trail Information
Due to increased fire activity and to promote public safety the southeast flank access has been temporarily restricted through the fire area south of Beck Meadows and north of Kennedy Meadows.

Alternate routes around the fire are available that will tie back into the PCT from Kennedy Meadows to Monache Meadows which include Jackass Trail (35E13), Albanita Trail (35E06), Jackass Peak (35E03), Snake Creek Trail to Monache Jeep Trail (34E38).  Trails will be signed "PCT Detour".
