Education background and job qualifications required to work here:

 

JPCSNRCC employs Research Animal Scientists, Ecologists, Rangeland Scientists, Research Soil Scientists, Microbiologists, and Agricultural Engineers. JPCSNRCC’s support staff includes Physical Science Technicians, Biological Science Technicians, Biologists, Agricultural Science Research Technicians, Hydrologists, Engineering Technicians, and office staff.

 

Soil Scientist/Ecologist/Ag Engineer

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Ecology: Basic requirements: Degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.

Soil Science: Basic requirements: A. Degree in soil science or a closely related discipline that included at least 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological, physical, or earth science, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in such subjects as soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility. OR B. Combination of education and experience that included courses equivalent to a major in soil science or related discipline that included at least 30 semester hours in the biological, physical, or earth sciences. At least 15 semester hours must have been in related areas, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Engineering: Basic requirements: Professional engineering degree OR 1) current registration as a professional engineer, 2) evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training examination or the written test required for professional registration, 3) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that meet the requirements for a professional engineering degree, or 4) successful completion of course work leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or an appropriate professional field and one year of professional engineering experience.

Research Animal Scientist

QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Requirements: A. Degree in animal science, dairy science, poultry science; or a related discipline or field of animal science that included at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and agricultural sciences, and 20 semester hours in animal sciences. For animal scientists, at least 10 of the required 20 semester hours in animal science must have been in courses dealing with the breeding, feeding, production, and management of livestock, and the care and preparation of their products/dairy science. OR B. Combination of education and experience that included courses equivalent to a major in the basic biological and agricultural sciences, including a minimum of 20 semester hours in appropriate animal science subjects, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the above basic requirements applicants must have:

GS-12: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11.
GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12.

Biological Science Lab Technician

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet the following specialized experience or education:

GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal service OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistic, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been in biochemistry or molecular biology.

GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service OR 6 months of graduate education directly related to the duties of the position.

GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service OR 1 full year of graduate education directly related to the duties of the position

Agricultural Science Research Technician

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE WILL BE EVALUATED AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs) AS OUTLINED UNDER SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR(S). A SPECIFIC RESPONSE TO THE REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED UNDER SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ENSURE ADEQUATE CONSIDERATION IN THE EVALUATION PROCESS.

GS-7: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent
to GS-06 or 1 full year of directly related graduate
level education.
GS-8: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent
to GS-7 or 1 and ½ years directly related graduate level
education.
GS-9: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent
to GS-8 or 2 years of directly related graduate level education.
