Funding opportunities for Neuroscience

SYNOPSIS

The Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS) and the Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB) support neuroscience research that spans multiple levels of analyses and complexity, from genes to behavior.  Neuroscience is a cross-cutting theme in both IOS and MCB, and includes the review of proposals within a number of clusters in each of the divisions.  In IOS the Neural Systems cluster reviews research proposals in a range of areas of neurosciences, including the neural and hormonal mechanisms underlying behavior with emphasis on how behavior reciprocally affects the nervous system; studies on the development and maturation of the nervous system; research on mechanisms underlying sensorimotor systems,;  and studies on neuronal and glial cell function and synaptic mechanisms. Computational and systems neuroscience are reviewed throughout this cluster. The Behavioral Systems cluster of IOS emphasizes a vertically integrated understanding of behavior, including studies focused on synergistic interactions of neural systems with developmental and physiological systems.  In MCB the Cellular Systems cluster includes research on neuronal cellular organization and signal transduction.  The Genes and Genome Systems cluster includes research on the mechanisms and regulation of gene expression in neurons.  The Biomolecular Systems cluster includes studies on the molecular, metabolic and membrane biology of neurons. Proposals that cross the boundaries of traditional fields through the use of innovative ideas or techniques are particularly encouraged.

Proposals should be submitted to one of the disciplinary clusters mentioned above for the regular review cycle.
