Research Project: INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODOLOGIES FOR COMMERCIAL-SCALE POND AQUACULTURE

Location: Harry K. Dupree Stuttgart National Aquaculture Research Center

Project Number: 6225-32000-004-08
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Aug 01, 2005
End Date: Jan 31, 2009

Objective:
To evaluate new or improved production systems for channel catfish, by testing high-intensity production in heterotrophic-based culture units.

Approach:
Research will be conducted in nine, 41m2 x 0.8 m deep HDPE-line divided raceways on the UAPB Aquaculture Research Station. Catfish stocking rates and raceway management protocols will be varied in a series of replicated experiments to test the feasibility of heterotrophic-based culture units for catfish culture. Water quality variables will be measured frequently at the SNARC lab.
