Research Program

Dr. Pusey conducts research in the area of epidemiology and control of the fire blight disease of apple and pear. Investigations deal with the biology, pathology and ecology of epiphytic microorganisms, primarily bacteria and yeasts, their evaluation and development as biological control agents for fire blight, and their integration with other disease control strategies and orchard management practices. In addition, he addresses quarantine and phytosanitary issues related to fire blight as a barrier to the export of pear fruit.
