home page icon Welcome to the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center's (SEDAC) home page for the Stratospheric Ozone and Human Health Project. Stratospheric ozone protects the Earth's surface from high levels of biologically damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is known to be a significant risk factor for skin cancers, eye cataracts, and immune system suppression. Due to the current downward trends in total column ozone at mid- and high-latitudes, the expected increase in UV exposure as a result of this ozone loss may pose a significant health risk in the future.

The purpose of this site is to provide data and resources in the areas of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, ozone, and human health impacts of UV exposure for use by researchers, educators, government officials, health providers, students, and the general public.

Please note: This site is no longer being updated, but is being maintained for reference purposes.
