Locations of Uranium Recovery Sites Undergoing Decommissioning
The Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs (FSME) provides
project management and technical review for decommissioning and reclamation
of facilities that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulates under Appendix A to Title 10, Part 40, of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR Part 40). These
licensees include conventional uranium mills and in situ leach (ISL)
facilities. Of the 25 uranium recovery sites that are currently in decommissioning, 11 are regulated by the NRC [under Title II of the Uranium Mill Tailing Radiation
Control Act (UMTRCA)], and 14 are regulated by Agreement States. The following map depicts the locations of these sites, while the tables below the map identify the NRC-regulated and Agreement State-regulated sites and provide links to their descriptions, which include site status summaries, any major technical or regulatory issues, and the estimated date for closure of each site. For more information, see Uranium
Mill Tailings or contact us if you have any questions or comments.
