Proposed Flood Elevation Determination

Various Communities in Orange County, North Carolina

On April 28, 2005, FEMA issued a preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report and Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for Orange County, North Carolina and Incorporated Areas for public review.

Notice of the proposed modified Base (1% annual chance) Flood Elevations (BFEs) shown on the preliminary FIS and FIRM can be viewed by clicking on the link below. A Summary notice has also been published in the communities' local newspaper, the Chapel Hill Herald on May 5, 2005 and May 12, 2005.

Publication of the proposed BFEs initiates the statutory 90-day appeal period provided for appeals and protests to the preliminary FIS and FIRM. Further information on the procedures for submitting an appeal or protest is included in the document titled Appeals and Protests to National Flood Insurance Program Maps an excerpt from A GUIDE FOR COMMUNITY OFFICIALS.

All interested parties are advised that the statutory 90-day appeal period will end on August 10, 2005.
